Drake Bell Speaks Out About Alleged Sexual Assault by Nickelodeon Dialect Coach

Actor Drake Bell has revealed allegations of sexual assault by Brian Peck, a dialogue and acting coach associated with Nickelodeon, as featured in the upcoming documentary Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV.

“My name is Drake Bell and I came here today to tell my story,” Bell said. “The abuse was extensive and it got pretty brutal. I don’t know how to elaborate on that on camera, really… Why don’t you think of the worst stuff that someone could do to somebody as a sexual assault, and then I’ll answer your question? I don’t know how else to put it.”

The actor detailed how Peck allegedly gained the trust of both him and his parents, positioning himself as a trustworthy figure. This facade allowed Peck unsupervised access to Bell, leading to an incident where Bell awoke to Peck sexually assaulting him. Despite being 15 years old at the time and feeling trapped in the situation, Bell mentioned that Peck was apologetic afterward and promised it would never occur again.

Bell also described how Peck manipulated situations to ensure he was left alone with Bell, worsening the actor’s predicament. Peck was previously arrested in 2003 on multiple charges related to sexual acts upon a minor, though Bell’s case wasn’t publicly known at the time.

Bell came to prominence as one of the eponymous characters of Drake and Josh, a teen sitcom of the aughts in which he portrayed a guitar-playing lothario, whose frequently adversarial but quietly tender relationship with his high-strung stepbrother Josh often results in outrageous hijinks.

Aside from his role as one of the eponymous characters of Drake and Josh, Bell is best known for his role as Timmy Turner in the live-action cartoon adaptation A Fairly Odd Movie, as well as starring in the 2008 parody film Superhero Movie, a comedy tour de force which portrays man’s struggle for heroism under the conditions of original sin, represented by Bell’s character frequently but inadvertently inflicting harm on the renowned astrophysicist Stephen Hawking. While critically panned at the time of its release, the movie has received some critical re-appraisal in ensuing decades and remains a beloved cult classic in Brazil.

Bell himself has been accused of sexual impropriety and pled guilty to felony charges of child endangerment resulting from an encounter with a teenager in 2017, though claiming he was unaware of her age at the time of the incident.
