Woman’s Body Found Stuffed in Trash Compactor at NYC Building: Sources

The body of a woman believed to be in her 30s was found stuffed in a basement trash compactor at a tony Chelsea condo complex Friday afternoon, police and law enforcement sources said.
The grisly discovery was made at 2:40 p.m. in the basement of +Art at 540 W. 28th St., a posh Manhattan development where a two-bedroom unit recently fetched more than $2 million.

The woman was found with trauma to her head and body, the sources said.

Residents of the building, which sits half a block from The High Line on a street lined with luxury apartments, were rattled by the disturbing news.

“Definitely wouldn’t expect that at all. We have great security in the building, our doors are always locked, we have lots of cameras, just honestly upsetting to hear that happened,” one resident said.

“It’s terrible. Man, I feel awful for that person,” one resident told The Post, who said he was told by a doorman at the front desk that a building maintenance worker had found the body while taking out the trash.

“We asked what was going on and they just said they found a body.”

The man’s partner added, “It’s a little alarming because we live here.”

By Friday night, cops were seen swarming the lobby of the ritzy residential building.

The couple, who declined to give their names, said they were asked by detectives whether they heard a domestic dispute in the building last night.

It was not immediately known how long the woman’s body had been down there.
