Bradley Cooper abruptly left a public event on Thursday to address a personal emergency involving his daughter Lea, according to a report by the Daily Mail.

During a press conference in New York for his Netflix film “Maestro,” Cooper received a call from the school nurse, prompting him to excuse himself urgently. He holds joint custody of Lea with his ex-girlfriend, Irina Shayk.

“So sorry. The school nurse just called me,” Cooper said.

“Can I just leave the room for a second to call them back and you can keep going. Is that all right?” he asked.

Upon returning, Cooper shared that he needed to attend to an urgent situation at his daughter’s school.

“I have to go to the school to do something with Lea that needs… I have to apply something that they won’t allow… I have to do it, so it’s like a ten minute walk,” Cooper explained. He then left the building to tend to his six-year-old daughter.

In “Maestro,” Cooper portrays the renowned composer and conductor Leonard Bernstein — though the film occasioned controversy for the gentile Cooper’s portrayal of the Jewish musician, as well as for the prosthetic nose which Cooper used for the role. (Cooper was defended by Bernstein’s surviving family members.) Cooper not only stars in the film but also directed and produced it. The film, which began streaming on Netflix on December 1, features Carey Mulligan as Bernstein’s wife Felicia.
