Colorado Republican Chairman Reveals Plan To Tackle Court’s Ruling Removing Trump From 2024 Ballot

Dave Williams, the chairman of the Republican Party in Colorado, recently articulated his party’s strategy in response to a Colorado Supreme Court decision stating that former President Donald Trump is ineligible to appear on the state’s ballot next year.

Williams, in a conversation with CNN’s Abby Phillip, was asked to explain a post on X by the Colorado Republican Party, which said “We will never surrender!” in response to news of the state court’s decision.

“We think this is an absurd ruling and we’re going to do whatever we can to protect the rights of voters of Colorado — and frankly, across the nation — to choose Donald Trump if they so choose,” Williams said.

“We’re going to appeal this to the United State Supreme Court — we’re a party to the case — and we’re not going to take this lying down, and if need be, we’re going to withdraw from the primary and go to a strict caucus process that’ll allow our voters to choose Donald Trump if they want,” he explained.

When questioned about the potential affirmation of the state court’s decision by the Supreme Court, Williams did not hesitate in his response.

“Absolutely,” he said. “This is un-American, what’s going on. I don’t care if it’s a Republican-majority Supreme Court of the United States or if it’s a Democrat majority here in Colorado.”

Williams also addressed the issue of due process, noting that Trump has neither been charged nor convicted of insurrection. This, he argued, was a significant oversight in the court’s decision.

In response to a suggestion that other Republican candidates should withdraw from the Colorado primary, Williams clarified the party’s stance. “He won’t have to, we as a party are going to withdraw from the primary,” he stated. “We’re not gonna allow our voters to be shortchanged by radical justices.”

Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, also featured in Phillip’s video, concurred with the need for Trump’s presence on the Colorado ballot.

“I do not believe Donald Trump should be prevented from being president of the United States by any court,” Christie said. “I think he should be prevented from being president of the United States by the voters of this country.”
