Last week, a violent man attempted to attack a female judge in a Nevada Courtroom — lunging at her after jumping over the judge’s bench.
The viral video shows attacker, Deobra Redden, leaping toward the judge and wrestling with several court attendants. One man was sent to the hospital due to the melee.
Video shot in the courtroom on January 3, shows that as Redden’s attorney was asking the judge to show his client leniency and give him probation, Judge Mary Kay Holthus said, “I think it’s time he got a taste of something else.”
This angered Redden then leaped over the bench and lunged toward the judge, grabbing Holthus by the hair. Redden’s clerk, Michael Lasso intervened and was treated for cuts and bruises. A marshal was hospitalized with a dislocated shoulder and a cut to his forehead.
KSNV News reported the assailant pulled out some of Holthus’ hair and described Redden as “big, strong and angry.”
Holthus, who did not agree to Redden’s attorney’s request for probation, was injured but returned to work the next day.
So Deobra Delone Redden 30 was denied parole and then decided to take out his frustration on the judge. Not the best way to make a case for early release, but since he had no chance of getting out I don't know why people thought he'd be civil. #ignoranceisbliss pic.twitter.com/Gj36XUGJ9H

Following the attack, Redden was jailed on $54,000 bail. According to court documents, in addition to previous charges, Redden faces “coercion with force and battery on a protected person” charges, referring to the judge and the officers who came to her aid.
On Monday, Redden returned to the court, donning a spit guard, safety orange mittens and shackles. Judge Mary Kay Holthus rendered judgment.
He was sentenced to 19-48 months in prison for his violent crimes. According to The Associated Press, District Attorney Steve Wolfson noted that Redden’s criminal record includes three felonies and nine misdemeanors and that he had previously served time in prison in Nevada on a domestic battery conviction.
