Steve Burton made his debut on “General Hospital” in 1991, playing the role of leather jacket-wearing Jason Morgan. He was unceremoniously let go in 2021 amid the actor’s opposition to COVID vaccine mandates.

According to Hollywood Life, Burton said of his firing: “I did apply for my medical and religious exemptions, and both of those were denied. Which, you know, hurts. But this is also about personal freedom to me. I don’t think anybody should lose their livelihood over this.”

Burton added: “But with that being said, I’ll always be grateful for my time at “General Hospital.” I love it there. I grew up there. I grew up with some of you, so I’ll always be grateful.”

At the time a disappointed Burton stated, “When one door closes, multiple doors open. That’s always been my perspective … I’m excited to see what the future brings.”

The then 50-year-old actor went on to star in “Days of Our Lives.” A few days ago, Burton announced via YouTube that he had “just shot my final scenes.”

Noting his appreciation to the “Days of Our Lives” cast and crew, Burton said: “I just want to say, thank you so much to the cast [and] to the crew. It’s been amazing.”

Teasing fans about his future plans, Burton said: “I’m always so full of gratitude. So thank you. Stay tuned.”

Three years after Burton spoke of doors opening and his future holding many options, he made a surprise appearance on “General Hospital’s 60th Anniversary” specialstanding next to co-stars Laura Wright and Kelly Monaco.

Burton was donning his signature Jason Morgan leather jacket. Intimating he was back, Burton said, “Happy anniversary, ‘General Hospital.’ Stay tuned. Big things are coming to Port Charles.”
