RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel to Step Down Next Week

Ronna McDaniel announced on Monday she will step down as RNC Chair in March following Super Tuesday.

“I have decided to step aside at our spring training on March 8 in Houston to allow our nominee to select a chair of their choosing,” McDaniel shared with The New York Times in a statement.

“The RNC has historically undergone change once we have a nominee and it has always been my intention to honor that tradition,” she continued. “I remain committed to winning back the White House and electing Republicans up and down the ballot in November.”

The statement was sent in an email from the RNC on Monday. At the end of the email was a link to a pdf file of McDaniel’s accomplishments. In addition to other background information.

As The Post Millennial reported, McDaniel, who has faced criticism in the past year of her position as RNC Chair, including her lavish spending using RNC funds, released a letter in February in an attempt to calm “rumors” about her stepping down.

Former President Trump has been amongst McDaniel’s critics. Suggesting he no longer has confidence in her role as Chair.

“I think she did great when she ran Michigan for me,” the GOP front-runner said in an interview on Fox News earlier this month

“I think she did OK, initially, in the RNC. I would say right now, there’ll probably be some changes made,” he added.

As reported by The Huffington Post, McDaniel previously told Trump she would step down following Saturday’s South Carolina race, where the former President defeated Nikki Haley by over 20 percentage points in her home state.

Trump is now backing chair of the North Carolina Republican Party Michael Whatley to succeed McDaniel. With the front-runner’s daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, taking over as RNC co-chair.

“Every single penny will go to the No. 1 and the only job of the RNC, that is electing Donald J. Trump as president of the United States and saving this country,” Lara Trump said earlier this month.
