Senator Mitt Romney, a longtime Republican Utah Senator and former presidential candidate will not seek reelection in 2024.
One of the candidates seeking to fill his vacant Senate seat is Brent Orrin Hatch, the son of the late, notable Senator, Orrin Hatch.

Also running for the Senate seat will be Republican Rep. John Curtis. The Representative previously declined an invitation to run for the high office, but recently announced his change of plans via video.
An excerpt from his video statement reads: “As a father and a grandfather, I care deeply about Utah’s future. That’s why today, I’m announcing my candidacy for the U.S. Senate. We need to get America back on track. As your senator, I’ll work hard every day to make Utah an even better place. I’m John Curtis, and I look forward to earning your vote.”
As a Republican, Curtis vows to fight Biden administration-pushed “reckless spending,” regain America’s energy independence, secure the southern border, oppose China, and “push back on D.C.’s takeover of what should be Utah’s land.”
Brent Hatch announced his intent to run for Romney’s seat via a statement reported by KSL.com. The Republican is not an experienced statesman but does have legal experience.
The Daily Caller reported the Republican previously served as a law clerk to former Judge Robert H. Bork and as an associate White House counsel to former President George H.W. Bush.
Attempting to use his lack of political experience to his advantage, Hatch said: “I am not a professional politician. I left Washington at an early age. I have worked for over 33 years here in Utah as a lawyer protecting the rights of individuals and companies,”
Hatch added: “But I still have an insider’s knowledge of the highest levels of government from serving Presidents Reagan and Bush in the White House, working with Congress, and in the courts.”
Hatch noted his campaign will focus on combating inflation, reeling in the federal budget, and securing the southern border. Notably, Brent Hatch’s father served as a Senator for 42 years.
Romney took Hatch’s seat in 2018 following his retirement.

Unfortunately, the press release announcing his candidacy contains a glaring typo #utpol pic.twitter.com/X4YYvtBISL
Other Republicans running for the vacant seat include Riverton Mayor Trent Staggs and former Utah House Speaker Brad Wilson.
