Gov. Josh Shapiro Offers Bizarre Explanation for Why Trump Is Leading Biden in the Polls

Democratic Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro recently offered a unique — and uniquely patronizing — perspective on why former President Donald Trump is currently leading President Joe Biden in recent polls.

Shapiro’s comments came during an interview with NBC News, where he attributed Trump’s polling lead to what he termed “brain fog” among voters. He expressed his belief that this fog would dissipate before the 2024 presidential election.

Shapiro reflected on the previous administration, saying, “I’m not sure folks remember just how chaotic it was, how divisive it was, how he was just in your face in your living room every day.” He further added that he doesn’t think people want to return to that kind of environment.

Trump is anticipated to secure the Republican presidential primary and potentially face Biden in a rematch of the 2020 presidential election. Currently, Trump holds a 46% lead in national Republican primary polls and nearly a 30% lead in Iowa polls, as per the RealClearPolitics polling average.

Shapiro elaborated on his views, stating, “As people are reminded of what it was like and they are forced to tune back in and listen to that during the course of a presidential race, they’re going to reject his extremism, his chaos and his danger.”

In recent polls, Trump has shown a lead over Biden. The Emerson College poll shows Trump leading 47% to 43%, and he has also widened his lead in the latest Messenger/HarrisX poll. Additionally, Trump is ahead in NBC’s national poll for the 2024 election and leads in several swing state polls, including those conducted by The New York Times and Siena College.

The 2024 election could also see the influence of third-party candidates, such as Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Cornel West and Jill Stein, potentially impacting the final outcome.
